I was wondering recently what the record was for number of extra
innings in a single game in which runs were scored.

It's 26, as seen above.

You're asking what is the most times the home team has matched a score
of the visiting team in extra innings?

Damn omission of commas:

Another interesting record is most runs in an extra inning. Back in
1983 the Rangers scored 12 runs in the 15th inning against the A's and
beat them 16-4.

I would guess that with more run scoring today, there would be fewer
and shorter extra-inning games. Anyone know if that's so?
